In the heart of rural Aberdeenshire, Smithfield B&B provides an ideal base from which to explore the treasures of the North East of Scotland. Set in the peaceful, secluded countryside of the Ythan Valley, Smithfield, the 200 year old home of the Thomas-Wright family, offers a warm and friendly welcome. We are situated on the edge of the small hamlet of Ythanbank, nestled in the valley of the River Ythan, just 10 minutes from Ellon & Methlick, and 30 minutes from Aberdeen & Peterhead. B&B guests are welcome to relax in the south-facing sitting room, listen to music and enjoy books from our wide and eclectic collection. Smithfield's guest rooms comprise a spacious & elegantly furnished double room, with en-suite shower room, on the ground floor; and a tastefully furnished, first floor, single room, with separate bathroom. Both rooms have their own tea & coffee making facilities, and they enjoy views over the garden and the rolling countryside beyond. Our previous guests have complimented us on our hospitable & friendly welcome, our tasty organic breakfasts, and our tranquil location; all of which have led to very comfortable and relaxing visits.

Located in the heart of Aberdeenshire, Smithfield of Ythanbank, is well positioned for exploring both Aberdeenshire's famous Castle Country and Coastal Trail, and is just a few miles from the popular National Trust properties of Haddo House and Fyvie Castle. The super, family run Glen Garioch Whisky Distillery is in nearby Old Meldrum, which has excellent guided tours and a Visitor Centre. Smithfield is also well placed for fishing, golf, walking & wildlife watching, both inland and coastal, and is also close to the National Cycle Route. The countryside, the light, and the huge ever-changing skies with very special sunsets, are also inspirational for many artists.

Details: Rose cottage is situated in the centre of Newburgh-on-Ythan village, on the A975 Coast Road, almost halfway between Aberdeen and Peterhead, and 5 miles SE of Ellon.

Rose Cottage has an upstairs bedroom with twin single divan beds. The bathroom is also upstairs and is fitted with a corner bath, WC and wash-hand basin. Downstairs is a dining room, living room and modern fitted kitchen. The dining room has 6 place settings, a double sofa-bed, storage cupboard, iron and ironing board.

Rose Cottage has central heating throughout, with additional gas fire in the lounge. The lounge has two easy chairs and a double sofa-bed and is also equiped with a TV, Freeview box, VHS player, DVD Player, Radio/CD player and a selection of books, VHS tapes, DVD's and music CDs.

Outside to the front of Rose Cottage there is a small garden with a wooden bench. We also have a small brick built shed where wet-weather gear, golf bags and fishing rods etc. can be stored. Behind the shed there is an additional toilet.
Parking is in the Main Street lay-by.
A short footpath leads to the cottage via a shared court-yard.
BED LINEN, TOWELS, GAS & ELECTRICITY ARE INCLUDED IN THE PRICE.

The Lodge

Self-catering Log Cabin in a peaceful & secluded meadow.

Tucked under the Scots Pines, in the quiet meadow behind their 200 year old home, the Thomas-Wrights have designed a comfortable log cabin for lovers of the outdoors and open air living. The Lodge has a veranda to relax on with your wine, beer, hot chocolate or a good book! It looks out over the rolling landscape and the huge, ever-changing skies. The simple & comfortable studio room is snugly furnished with bunk beds and a sofa bed, all supplied with bed linen. It sleeps up to 4 people (it can sleep 5, but there is limited floor space if the trundle bed is in use and the sofa bed is pulled out at the same time). There is also a TV and clothes storage.The Lodge has an adjoining kitchenette, separate from the main living space, where you can prepare and eat your food. It is well equipped with all that is needed for a relaxing break or an extended stay. The shower and toilet facilities are shared with the other campers. The number of visitors to this hideaway campsite is kept to a minimum to retain the tranquil, peaceful environment. The Thomas-Wright family are keen environmental enthusiasts, so provision is made for campers to embrace recycling & composting, in order that as little waste as possible goes to landfill.
Rates: Lodge rental varies according to the length of stay, the number of people, and the time of year.

Welcome to Ythan Valley Campsite

Set in the heart of rural Aberdeenshire, this campsite is a tent-campers retreat, nestled in the tranquil Ythan Valley, surrounded by rolling farm land and beautifully 'large' skies. Guaranteed a warm welcome by the family owners, this small site limits the numbers of pitches to ensure that a quiet relaxing atmosphere is maintained. Simple tasty breakfasts can be delivered to your tent, or served refectory-style in the old coach house or under the canopy in the sheltered courtyard. You can order home-made organic bread to be warm and ready for you in the morning, and free range eggs are available from the family's own happy, healthy hens & ducks! Shower and toilet facilities are indoors for your comfort. Small items can be refrigerated, and ice packs can be put in the freezer. You may use the washing line too, just ask.... Maintaining a peaceful environment for relaxation is paramount, so the number of people and number of pitches are limited. Please ensure you phone in advance, to ensure there is a pitch available.
